Fun with Excel 2000

Excel 2000 credits

This works with Windows 95/98/NT/2000.

  1. Open Excel with a new worksheet
  2. Hit the F5 key
  3. Type x2000:l2000 then hit Enter
  4. Hit the Tab key
  5. Hold down the Control and Shift keys and click on the Chart Wizard button

Although this isn't as nice as Excel 97 where you'd get to play with flight simulator, this is what you get with 2K.

If you've installed a service pack for Off2K yet, skip this trick--it won't work.

Open Excel.

In the File menu, choose Save as Web Page.

Save the page wherever you want, BUT:
choose Selection: Sheet AND check the Add interactivity box. It will put the name page.htm in for you automatically.

Open IE5 then open (File >> Open) the blank file you saved (remember, it should be called page.htm).

Go to Row 2000, Column WC (I can't figure out an easy way to get there so you'll just have to scroll and Tab) and select the whole row.

Press Tab until the highlight box (it will probably be white) is in the WC column. DON'T unhighlight the whole row!

Hold CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT and click the Office logo icon in the upper left-hand corner of the spreadsheet.

You should now see a game that works and looks like Spy Hunter! There are introductory directions for you read before you go cruising on the highway with the names of all the people who worked on Excel 2K. Use the arrow keys to move yourself (up is forward) and you can shoot by pressing the spacebar and spread oil slicks behind you by pressing O. Fun fun fun!
