Customizing
the task bar . . .
Tired of looking at the task bar? Right-click on a bare spot on the task bar and select Properties. Check off "Auto-hide" and the task bar will disappear when not in use. To see it, just move the pointer to the bottom of the screen and it will pop up. Don't want the task bar on the bottom? Click and hold the task bar and you can move it to the top, left or right of the screen. If you double-click on the clock in the task bar, you will get the "Date/Time Properties" dialog, which conveniently displays a useful calendar. Make the Windows taskbar as big as you want In addition to auto-hiding the taskbar and moving it to different locations, you can also resize it. Make it larger or smaller by going to the taskbar and putting your pointer right on the edge between the taskbar and your desktop. You should see the pointer turn into a resize arrow. At this point, you can permanently hide the taskbar by shrinking it from its standard height, or you can make it larger by pulling it upwards towards the desktop until it takes up half of your screen. It's a common mistake for new users to hide the taskbar this way and never be able to find it again. Of course, if you shrink it down, you can go to the space where the task bar used to be and grow it back to normal size again. You'll notice that it's not really gone, just pushed so that it's almost off of the screen.
